advanced Fire Prevention Systems for Solvent Recovery Units
DEC.FPS™
In gas-phase activated carbon (AC) adsorption systems, such as Solvent Recovery Units (SRUs), fire risks arise from self-heating, hotspot formation, thermal runaway, self-ignition, smouldering, or flaming combustion within the activated carbon beds. Fire incidents can have devastating consequences for industrial operations, leading to significant financial losses, environmental damage, and, most importantly, putting lives at risk. At DEC, we understand the critical importance of robust and reliable fire prevention and detection (FPS) systems. Our comprehensive suite of solutions is designed to provide early warning, rapid response, and effective control, safeguarding your valuable assets and ensuring the continuity of your business.

DEC.FPS™ • Comprehensive Approach to Fire Safety
At DEC, we offer a holistic approach to fire safety, encompassing the entire lifecycle from initial risk assessment to ongoing maintenance. Our expertise covers:
DEC.FPS™ • safety
DEC is offering several decades of experience in design and installation of the most technically advanced and efficient vapor phase solvent recovery systems, also dedicated to the succesful recovery of problematic solvents such as ketones (particularly MEK - methylethylketone).
The spontaneous ignition of the activated carbon, when dealing with problematic solvents (i.e. ketones such as Methyl Ethyl Ketone, Cyclohexanone, etc.), could lead to severe damages to the solvent recovery plant: the activated carbon, acting as a catalyst, is supporting oxidation reactions, which are strongly exothermic. Furthermore, the resulting formation of high boilings acids (i.e. adipic acid from cyclohexanone) may lead to efficiency problems, due to the high requested desorption temperature (adsorbent fouling).
Adavanced temperature monitoring system, assisted by CO and CO2 advanced N.D.I.R. (nondispersive infrared) DEC.ATX™ analytical modules, coupled with our DEC.ODP™ (Oxygen Depleting Process), will increase both passive and active safety of your solvent recovery plant.
In order to recover the ketones, with increased safety, a particular design of the SRU (Solvent Recovery Unit) shall be adopted, typically involving increased capacity of SLA cooling, possibly coupled with the DEC.RHC™ (Relative Humidity Control), and a particular type of adsorbent (activated carbon) shall be used.

DEC.FPS™ • layers of detection for prevention
In order to prevent, detect and suppress such undesired side reactions, we have developed (since early 1990's) the DEC.FPS™ process control module, which is nowadays available with different layers of protection, from the basic "level 1, FPS1™" to the most advanced configuration "level 7, FPS7™", assisted by the advanced DEC.FSS™ • Fire Suppression Systems.
